One of the many treasured memories in my life was teaching my oldest son how to ride a bike. I remember taking those training wheels off and running behind him as he took off. Honestly, I can’t even start to express all of the feelings. Those moments are forever etched on my heart - moments of fear, excitement and love.
It’s interesting that in a recent survey of children, 85% said that the one thing they wish they had more of growing up, was time with their parents. It should make all of us question what is really important in life.
On my oldest son’s sixth birthday, I was unable to be present. I spoke with him on the phone as he opened up a $0.99 toy that I had sent in an envelope. “Dad! This is exactly what I wanted! Oh, thank you!” Of all the expensive gifts, I know that it was the thought and the phone call that meant more for both of us.
