Care Packages Provide The Right Thing

Many times we find ourselves in difficult situations that can seem overwhelming. It may be a troubling decision at work or the painful acceptance of a divorce.  Our comfort lies in knowing that we can control our responses to these painful situations - our own free will.  Life can be cruel, so be reminded of stories that shed a different perspective:

A man came to a point where he wanted to simply end his life.  He thought about it seriously and determined that the best way to go would be by having a heart attack.  Because he was so out of shape, he decided that a good way to accomplish this was to get up in the morning and run as hard, as fast and as far as he could until he would have a heart attack.

So, the very next morning he woke up and did exactly that.  But to his surprise, he collapsed sweating profusely and out of breath – but without having a heart attack.

Gathering himself up and recovering from his exhaustion, he set out the next morning to do exactly the same thing.  Once again, he collapsed sweating profusely and out of breath – but again, without having a heart attack.

This went on for several more days and finally, by the end of the week, the man had run every single morning but was still alive.  Almost habitually, he got out of bed the very next day to go for his morning run, but this time he paused.  And with a slight smile on his face, he realized for the first time that he honestly felt good about himself and no longer wanted to end his life.
